AERO_LogoWestwind Brass is internationally recognized for their critically acclaimed residencies, educational performances and concerts. The ensemble has performed for the Music Educators National Conference, California Music Educators Conference the first Chamber Music Educator/Ensemble Seminar at Oberlin, and has spent many weeks in residency from Japan, Mexico through all regions in the United States.

K-6th Grade Programs

CLASS I

All About the Brass (K-6)

K-6 Introduction to the brass instrumentsIntroduction to the brass instruments
This show features a wide variety of musical styles including Modern, Ragtime, Classical, Romantic, and Dixieland, and touches upon the basic concepts of brass playing. This assembly also has a brief question and answer period at the end. Students will listen, respond, and directly participate in this introductory program which is ideal for schools with or without an active school music program.


CLASS II

American Heritage through Music (K-6)

K-6 American Heritage through MusicThis program highlights many types of American music and composers from the 1600s to the present. The history and uniquely American sounds of Shaker Hymns, Civil War Marches, Spirituals, Ragtime, Dixieland, Folklorico, Jazz, and Rock are presented in a well – rounded and fascinating format. Students will leave this assembly with increased awareness and appreciation of the multi-faceted fabric of American music.

CLASS III

Around the World thru Brass (K-6)

K-6 Around the World thru BrassThis program is a multi-cultural musical journey through selected cultures. These selections include: Music of Africa, Music of Americas, Northern Native Americans, Central and South America; Music of Asia, China, and Music of Europe. The purpose of this program is to expose students to the distinct sounds of the world of music and how these musical characteristics have been incorporated into modern forms. Students will directly participate in various world rhythms, melodies, and styles.

Middle School, High School and College Music Programs

Clinic

A clinic with Westwind Brass (WWB) features an emphasis on musicality and its effect on the individual and the ensemble. Topics are revealed through live performance and cogent discussion. All aspects of a clinic are custom made for the needs of the individual school being served.


Rehearsal

WWB rehearses and performs with the participants with the goal of a joint performance on the ensuing concert program.


Summer Brass Workshop

Westwind Brass is pleased to provide its Summer Brass Workshop at San Diego State University School of Music and Dance. This is open to all high school, college, and adult brass players in San Diego County. Activities include: sectional coachings, ensemble playing, and group performances. Ensembles will range from large brass ensembles, brass quintets, brass trios, trumpet, horn, trombone, and low brass ensembles. Public Performance

WWB performs a full program of music featuring their renowned diversity and wit.

A highlight of the program is a performance with participating students of a specially rehearsed work for massed brass.
